A complex counterpart of the Chern-Simons-Witten (CSW) theory, namely the complex analogue of the Gauss linking number for complex curves, is developed in this paper. Referring to the complexification of loop group theory discovered in [\textit{P. I. Etingof} and \textit{I. B. Frenkel}, Commun. Math. Phys. 165, No. 3, 429--444 (1994; Zbl 0822.22014)] and extended in [\textit{I. B. Frenkel} and \textit{B. A. Khesin}, Commun. Math. Phys. 178, No. 3, 541--562 (1996; Zbl 0858.22017)], the authors introduce a rigorous expression for the holomorphic linking. They show that the Green kernel, occuring in the classical integral for the Gauss linking number, is replaced by the Bochner-Martinelli kernel and has a deep relation with the theory of Green currents in Arakelov geometry. The holomorphic linking is derived in the frame of the complex CSW path integral formalism and is expressed via the Grothendieck-Serre duality in local cohomology. Different realizations of the holomorphic linking are then proved to be related to several structures of complex and algebraic geometry.
