\textit{M. Brodmann} and the reviewer [J. Algebr. Geom. 16, No. 2, 347--400 (2007; Zbl 1126.14054)] classified projective varieties \(X \subset \mathbb P^r_K\) of degree \(\deg X =\text{codim} (X) + 2.\) They are described -- roughly speaking -- as projections of a scroll \(\tilde X \subset \mathbb P^{r+1}_K\) from a point \(p \in \mathbb P^{r+1}_K \setminus \tilde X\) or del Pezzo varieties. In the paper under review the author considers the case of \(\tilde X \subset \mathbb P^d\) a rational normal curve and the isomorphic projection from a point \(p \mathbb P^d \setminus \tilde X^2,\) where \(\tilde X^k, k \geq 1,\) denotes \(k\)-th join of \(\tilde X\) with itself. He defines \(\text{rk}_{\tilde X} p = \min \{k \in \mathbb N | p \in \tilde X^k \}.\) Then the main results are: (1) The projection \(X \subset \mathbb P^{d-1}_K\) is contained in a rational normal scroll \(S(a,b) \subset \mathbb P^{d-1}_K, 1 \leq a\leq b,\) if and only if \(a= l-2.\) (2) \(X\) satisfies property \(N_{2,p}\) if and only if \(p \leq l-3.\) The failure of \(N_{2,l-2}\) comes from the existence of an \(l\)-secant \((l-2)\)-plane to \(X.\) (3) The graded Betti numbers of \(X\) are uniquely determined by \(\text{rk}_{\tilde X} p.\) The result in (1) makes the exitence of the scroll proved in Brodmann' and the reviewer's paper (see loc. cit.) much more precise. With (3) the author solves the problem to determine the Betti diagram as posed in loc. cit. in this case.
