Leibniz \(n\)-algebras were introduced in [\textit{J. M. Casas, J.-L. Loday} and \textit{T. Pirashvili}, Forum Math. 14, No. 2, 189--207 (2002; Zbl 1037.17002)]. They generalize both Leibniz algebras and \(n\)-Lie algebras introduced in [\textit{Y. Nambu}, Phys. Rev. D (3) 7, 2405--2412 (1973; Zbl 1027.70503)] in the framework of Hamiltonian dynamics and in [\textit{V. T. Filippov}, Sib. Mat. Zh. 26, No. 6(154), 126--140 (1985; Zbl 0585.17002); English translation in Sib. Math. J. 26, 879--891 (1985)] in purely algebraic setup. In the paper under review the authors construct the universal enveloping algebra of a Leibniz \(n\)-algebra and prove that the category of modules over this algebra is equivalent to the category of representations. They also prove the Poincaré-Birkhoff-Witt theorem for universal enveloping algebras of finite-dimensional Leibniz \(n\)-algebras using Gröbner bases in a free associative algebra. Finally, the paper contains a computer program which calculates the Gröbner basis of the ideal that determines the universal enveloping algebra of a Leibniz \(n\)-algebra.
