Let \(G\) be a group acting on a topological space \(X\). The action is said to be chaotic if the set of points with finite \(G\)-orbits is dense in \(X\) and if for any nonempty open sets \(U,V\subseteq X\) there exists some \(g\in G\) so that \(gU\cap V\) is nonempty. It has been conjectured that on \(\mathbb{R}^n\) there are no chaotic group actions via compactly supported homeomorphisms. The authors construct counterexamples to this conjecture on \(\mathbb{R}^n\), for all \(n\geq 2\).
