Let \(p\) denote a prine. A \(p\)-algebra is a finite dimensional division algebra with centre a field of characteristic \(p\) and index a power of \(p\). In response to a question of \textit{A. A. Albert} [in ``Structure of algebras'', AMS Colloq. Publ. 24, AMS, Providence (1939; Zbl 0023.19901)], \textit{S. A. Amitsur} and \textit{D. Saltman}, [in their paper J. Algebra 51, 76-87 (1978; Zbl 0391.13001)], constructed for any prime \(p\), generic Abelian crossed product \(p\)-algebras which contain no non-central elements whose \(p\)-th power is central. This gave the existence of non-cyclic \(p\)-algebras of all degrees \(p^n\), \(n\geq 2\). Let \(E/F\) be an extension of fields and \(D\) be a finite dimensional central division algebra over \(F\). The extension \(D_E=D\otimes_FE\) is called a `prime to \(p\)' extension of \(D\) if the degree \([E:F]\) is coprime to \(p\). The main results, Theorem 3.9 and Corollary 3.10, prove the non-existence of prime to \(p\) extensions of the Amitsur-Saltman non-cyclic generic Abelian crossed products that are cyclic.
