Let \(X\) be a smooth projective curve and \(E\) a rank \(2\) vector bundle on \(X\) with \(L\) as its determinant. \textit{C. Voisin} [Compos. Math. 141, No. 5, 1163--1190 (2005; Zbl 1083.14038)] defined a certain homomorphism among symmetric and alternating tensor powers of global sections of \(E\) and \(L\) which in turn produces elements of the Koszul cohomology group \(K_{p,1}(X,L)\). If \(E\) is decomposable, this is a classical construction of Green and Lazarsfeld. Here the authors look at \(E\) as an extension of two line bundles and show that certain Koszul classes are non-zero if and only if the extension does not split. They prove that every non-zero element of \(K_{p,1}(X,L)\) with rank \(p+2\) arises in this way fom some \(E\) with determinant \(E\).
