    The author proved that there is a time local solution of the Cauchy problem for the one dimensional \(p\)-Laplacian type wave equation. Consider the following Cauchy problem \[ u_{tt}(t, x)= a(u_x)_{xx}(t, x),\quad t> 0,\quad x\in\mathbb{R}, \] \[ u(0)= u_0(x),\qquad u_t(0)= u_1(x). \] Assume that \(a(s): [-M, M]\to\mathbb{R}\) satisfies that \(a(s)\geq 0\), \(a(s)= 0\Leftrightarrow s= 0\), \(a(s)= s^2 a_0(s)\), \(a_0(s)\leq C_a\) and \(0\leq sa_0'(s)\leq C_a a_0(s)\), \(0\leq sa'(s)\leq C_a a_0(s)\), where \(a_0(s)\) is even. It is proved that under certain conditions with \(4\leq P+ 1\), \(P\), \(k\in\mathbb{N}\) there is \(T_0> 0\) such that there exists a local unique solution \(u\in L^\infty([0, T_0]: H^4(\mathbb{R}))\), \(u_{tt}\in L^\infty([0, T_0]: H^2)\). Moreover, if \((u_0, u_1)= \lambda(f, g)\), then \(T_0\geq C|\log\lambda|^{{1\over 3}}\) holds for \(0<\lambda\ll 1\).
