An initial boundary value problem for the linear hyperbolic partial differential equations with variable coefficients is considered and the purpose of the paper is to establish uniform local energy decay estimates without the compactness assumption on the supports of the initial data. Under certain restrictions regarding the domain of the space variable and the coefficient \(a(x)\) and assuming some algebraic decay order weight condition on the initial data, a uniform local energy decay property for the stated problem is proved.
