    In this paper, the author deals with rigidity of a pluriharmonic map defined on a compact nearly Kähler manifold and the structure of \(tt^*\)-bundles over compact nearly Kähler manifolds which are of physical interest. An almost Hermitian manifold \((M, J, g)\) is called nearly Kähler if \((D_XJ)X = 0\), where \(D\) is the Levi-Civita connection. Let \(\Delta_X = D_X - \frac{1}{2}J(D_XJ)\) and let \({\mathcal R}_\theta: TM \to TM\), \(\mathcal R_\theta(X) = \cos \theta X + \sin\theta JX\) for \(\theta \in [0, 2\pi]\). A family of maps \(f_\theta: M \to N\), \(\theta \in [0, 2\pi]\) satisfying \({\Phi}_\theta\circ df_\theta = df\circ {\mathcal R}_\theta\) for some bundle isomorphism \(\Phi_\theta: f^*_\theta TN \to f^*TN\) is called an associated family. A map \(f: (M, \Delta, J) \to N\) is called an \(S^1\)-pluriharmonic map if and only if it admits an associated family. Using some results in [\textit{L. Schaefer}, J. Geom. Phys. 57, 999--1014 (2007; Zbl 1121.32013)], the author proved that if \((M, J,g)\) is a nearly Kähler manifold, then any \(S^1\)-pluriharmonic map from \(M\) to a Riemannian manifold \(N\) is necessarily constant if \(N\) is convex supporting. This is a generalization of a rigidity result for harmonic maps due to \textit{W. B. Gordon} [Proc. Am. Math. Soc. 33, 433--437 (1972; Zbl 0216.42801)]. Now let \(E\) be a vector bundle over an almost complex manifold \((M, J)\) endowed with a connection \(D\) and a section \(S\in \Gamma(T^*M\otimes \operatorname{End} E)\) and let \(R^\theta\) be the curvature tensor of the connection \(D_X^\theta := D_X + \cos\theta S_X + \sin \theta S_{JX}\). Then \((E, D, S)\) is called a \(tt^*\)-bundle if it satisfies \(R^\theta = 0\). A metric \(tt^*\)-bundle \((E, D, S, g)\) is a \(tt^*\)-bundle \((E, D, S)\) endowed with a possibly indefinite \(D\)-parallel fiber metric \(g\) such that \(g(S_XY, Z) = g(Y, S_XZ)\). The author proves that if \(E\) has rank \(r\) with positive definite metric \(g\) and \((E, D, S, g)\) is a metric \(tt^*\)-bundle over a compact nearly Kähler manifold \(M\), then \((E, D, S, g)\) is trivial which means \(S = 0, D^\theta = D\) for all \(\theta\), and \(D\) is flat and \(g\) is \(D^\theta\)-parallel. The author also obtained a similar result for harmonic bundles over a compact nearly Kähler manifold. Finally, applying the result mentioned above, he proves that any compact nearly special Kähler manifold is trivial.
