The authors investigate primitive normal polynomials over finite fields. In particular, they improve asymptotic results in the literature in terms of, not only primitivity, but also normality, and the number of prescribed coefficients. The tools used are estimates of character sums over finite fields using the authors' previously introduced \(p\)-adic methods as well as computational techniques involving primitive polynomials with prescribed coefficients.
