The author defines the Banach space \(M(p,q)(\mathbb{R}^{d})\) to consist of those distributions \(f\) whose Gabor transforms \(V_g(f)(x,\omega)=\int_{\mathbb{R}^d} f(t) \overline{g(t-x)} \text{ e}^{-2\pi i t\omega}\, dt\) belong to the Lorentz space \(L^{p,q}(\mathbb{R}^{2d})\) with norm \[ \| f\| _{(p,q)}=\biggl({q\over p}\int_0^\infty \bigl[t^{1/p} f^{\ast\ast}(t)\bigr]^q {dt\over t}\biggr)^{1/q}; \quad f^{\ast\ast}(t)={1\over t}\int_0^t f^\ast (x)\,dx, \] where \(f^\ast\) is the decreasing rearrangement of \(f\). Beyond their well-definedness, a number of basic properties are established, including that the adjoint mapping \(F\mapsto V_g^\ast F\) given by \(\langle V_g^\ast F, f\rangle =\langle F, V_g f\rangle\) maps \(L^{p,q}(\mathbb{R}^{2d})\) to \(M(p,q)(\mathbb{R}^d)\), that the dual of \(M(p,q)(\mathbb{R}^d)\) is \(M(p',q')(\mathbb{R}^d)\) where, for \(p>1\), \(1/p+1/p'=1\), and that the space \(S(p,q)(\mathbb{R}^d) =L^1(\mathbb{R}^d) \cap M(p,q)(\mathbb{R}^d)\), normed by \(\| f\| _{1}+ \| V_g f\| _{L^{(p,q)}}\), is an essential Banach ideal with \(\| f\ast h\| _{M(p,q)}\leq \| f\| _{M(p,q)}\| h\| _{1}\), where \(1<p<\infty\) and \(1\leq q<\infty\). Finally, the multipliers of \(S(p,q)(\mathbb{R}^d)\) are shown to be isometrically isomorphic to \(M(\mathbb{R}^d)\), the space of bounded regular Borel measures.
