This is a deep paper concerning extensions of the notion of divisibility of elements of torsionfree Abelian groups. The author generalizes the well known concepts of characteristic and type to produce a more far reaching indicator of divisibility. She studies the morphisms which preserve this indicator and the corresponding subgroups and factor groups. This leads to generalizations of the concepts of pure and nice subgroups and separable groups.
