The author investigates entropy numbers of sets and generalizes some results shown by \textit{B. Carl} and \textit{I. Stephani} [Entropy, compactness and the approximation of operators, Cambridge University Press, Cambridge (1990; Zbl 0705.47017)]. It is well known that if \(\Omega\) is the closed unit ball in the Euclidean space \({\mathbb R}^N\), then for every \(n\in {\mathbb N}\), the entropy number \(\varepsilon _n(\Omega)\) satisfies: \[ n^{-\frac{1}{N}}\leq \varepsilon _n(\Omega)\leq 4n^{-\frac{1}{N}}. \] Then the author extends estimates of this type to more general subsets of metric spaces. Finally the author studies relations between the asymptotic behaviour of the entropy numbers of bounded subsets of \({\mathbb R}^N\) and their box dimension.
