The paper discusses the generation of solitons in a model of nonlinear pulse propagation that involves both cubic and quintic nonlinear terms. It is shown that the self-focusing effects combined with anomalous dispersion give rise to bright grating solitons near the photonic bandgap. Multiscale analysis is adopted in order to describe the higher order effects. Important physical parameters such as peak power and pulse width of the Bragg soliton are calculated.
