The authors consider a model of random permutations of the sites on the cubic lattice. Let \(\Lambda\in\mathbb Z^d\) be a large but finite cubic box centered at the origin, and let \(\mathbf{B}_{\Lambda}\) denote the set of permutations on \(\Lambda\). The probability for \(\pi\in \mathbf{B}_{\Lambda}\) is given by \[ P_{\Lambda}(\pi)=\frac{1}{Z(\Lambda)}\prod_{x\in\Lambda}e^{-\alpha| x-\pi(x)|}{} ^2, \] where the parameter \(\alpha\) represents the temperature, \(| \cdot|\) denotes the Euclidean distance in \(\mathbb Z^d\), and \(Z(\Lambda)\) is the partition function. The numerical results show a surprisingly close relationship between the random cycle model and the ideal Bose gas.
