Let \(G\) be a complex semisimple algebraic group containing opposite Borel subgroups \(B^{+}\) and \(B^{-}\). \textit{V. Deodhar} [Commun. Algebra 13, 1379--1388 (1985; Zbl 0579.14046)] gave a stratification of the flag variety \(G/B\) of \(G\), refining the stratification into both \(B^{+}\) and \(B^{-}\) orbits. Each stratum is isomorphic to a product of copies of the complex numbers and the complex numbers without zero. In this article, the authors give an analogue of the Deodhar stratification for the double flag variety (the product of \(G/B\) with itself). They also discuss connections to positivity, Poisson geometry and cluster algebras.
