A uniform space \((X,{\mathcal N})\) is called trans-separable if for each vicinity \(U\) of \({\mathcal N}\) there is a countable subset \(C\) of \(X\) such that \(U[C]=X\). The authors prove that a uniform space \(X\) is trans-separable if and only if every pointwise bounded uniformly equicontinuous subset of the space of continuous real-valued functions \(C_c(X)\) equipped with the compact-open topology is metrizable. As a corollary they conclude that if \({\mathcal C}_c(X)\) is angelic, then \(X\) is trans-separable. The article ends with some remarks about the DCCC property. (A topological space \(X\) is said to have the discrete countable chain condition (DCCC) provided that every discrete family of open sets is countable.)
