Let \(\mathbb P ^{n}\) be the \(n\)-dimensional projective space over a field \(k\). A homogeneous polynomial \(F\) is called homaloidal if the polar map \(\partial F:\mathbb P ^{n}\longrightarrow \mathbb P ^{n}\) defined by partial derivatives of \(F\) is a birational transformation of \(\mathbb P ^{n}\). The author considers special polynomials \(F= \prod_{i=0}^r L_{i}^{m_i}\), where \(L_0,\dots , L_{r}\) are linear form, \(m_0,\dots , m_{r}\) are positive integers, and obtains a necessary and sufficient condition such polynomials to be homaloidal. Additional assumptions for this result are either \(\text{char} k=0\) or resolution of singularities holds in \(\text{char} k=p\) and dimension \(n\).
