    The author considers the nonlinear single pendulum type boundary value problem with two parameters, namely \[ -\ddot{u}( t) +\mu f( t,u( t) ) =\lambda \sin u( t), ~ u( t) >0,\quad u( -T) =u( T) =0 \] and \(\mu ,\lambda >0\) are parameters. The application of the Lagrange multiplier rule yields the existence of the solution triple \(( \mu ,\lambda ( \mu ) ,u_{\mu }) \in \mathbb R_{+}^{2}\times C^{2}[ -T,T]\) for each \(\mu >0\); \(u_{\mu }\) develops a boundary layer as \(\mu \to \infty \). The author investigates the asymptotic behavior of the boundary layer of \(u_{\mu }\) and the variational eigencurve \(\lambda ( \mu ) \) as \(\mu \to \infty \). The main results concern the asymptotic formulas for \(\lambda ( \mu ) \), \(\dot{u}_{\mu }( -T) ,\dot{u}_{\mu }( T) \) and \(\| u_{\mu }\| _{\infty }\) as \(\mu \to \infty \).
