The following theorem is proved: Let \(f_0\) be the canonical isometric imbedding of the Hermitian symmetric space \(\text{Sp}(n)/U(n)\), \(n\geq 2\), into the Euclidean space \({\mathfrak s}{\mathfrak p}(n)\) \((=\mathbb R^{2n^2+ n})\). Then, for any isometric immersion \(f_1\) of a connected open set \(U\) of \(\text{Sp}(n)/U(n)\) into \({\mathfrak s}{\mathfrak p}(n)\), there is a Euclidean transformation \(\alpha\) of \({\mathfrak s}{\mathfrak p}(n)\) satisfying \(f_1= \alpha f_0\) in \(U\), \(f\) is strongly rigid. The proof begins with the task of solving the Gauss equation on \(\text{Sp}(n)/U(n)\) in codimension \(n^2\) \((=\dim\text{Sp}(n)- \dim\text{Sp}(n)/U(n))\) to show that any solution \(\Psi\) is Hermitian, i.e., \(\Psi(IX,IY)=\Psi(X,Y)\). Then, by the help of a criterion for isometric imbedding of almost Hermitian manifolds, which was established by the author as Theorem 5, it can be seen that any solution of the Gauss equation is equivalent to the second fundamental form of \(f_0\). Therefore, by the congruence theorem of the same authors [Hokkaido Math. J. 34, No. 2, 331--353 (2005; Zbl 1129.53038)] the proof of the theorem is completed.
