Let \(\zeta_{\mathrm{R}}(z) = \exp \left( \sum_{n=1}^\infty \frac{z^n}{n} Z_n \right)\) be the dynamical zeta function with \(Z_n\) the partition function for a spin-chain, a one-sided one-dimensional subshift with interaction function of finite support or suitably fast decay. A typical example is the dynamical system arising from the Ising model for ferromagnetism [\textit{E. Ising}, Beitrag zur Theorie des Ferromagnetismus, Z. Phys. 31, 253--258 (1925)] a shift on the configuration space \(\{\pm1\}^{\mathbb{N}}\) together with a interaction function of finite range. In the article under review, the authors show that the dynamical zeta function \(\zeta_{\mathrm{R}}\) admits a meromorphic continuation and can be written as Euler product. The main assumption for this result is that the partition function \(Z_n\) satisfies a trace formula of the type \(Z_n = \det \left(1- \Lambda^n \right) \, \text{trace} \, G^n\) for suitable operators \(\Lambda\) and \(G\). The authors construct a suitable transfer operator \(G\) if the underlying spin-chain has an interaction function of finite support or suitably fast decay. The authors include a number of known examples for spin-chains in the physical literature and show how their result can be applied.
