The authors show that the motion of well-separated hyperbolic monopoles in the presence of one, or more fixed monopoles, is equivalent to geodesic motion on a particular submanifold of the full moduli space. The metric on the latter turns out to be a generalization of the multi-center Taub-NUT metric introduced by \textit{C. LeBrun} [J. Differ. Geom. 34, 223--253 (1991; Zbl 0725.53067)]. The one-center case, regarded as a special case of a class of systems admitting a conserved Runge-Lenz vector, is discussed in detail, and the two center problem is considered. Contents include: Introduction (with a historical survey); Hyperbolic monopoles; The LeBrun metrics; Classical mechanics of the one-center problem; Quantum mechanics of the one-center problem; The two-center problem; Conclusion; An Appendix (summarizing some useful properties of hyperbolic space); and an extensive set of references.
