    A standard operator algebra is an algebra of bounded linear operators on a Banach space containing all operators of finite rank. Let \(X\) be a Banach space over the real or complex field \(F\) and let \(\mathcal A (X)\) be a standard operator algebra on \(X\). Let \(\mathcal L(X)\) and \(\mathcal F(X)\) be the algebra of all bounded linear operators and the ideal of all finite rank operators on \(X\), respectively. In the paper under review, it is proved that if \(T: \mathcal A(X) \to \mathcal L(X)\) is an additive map which satisfies the relation \( T(A^3)= T(A^2) A\) for all \(A \in \mathcal A(X)\), then there exists \(B \in \mathcal L(X)\) such that \(T(A)= BA\) for all \(A \in \mathcal F(X)\) and \(T(A^2)= BA^2\) for all \(A \in \mathcal A(X)\). The author also shows that, if there exist linear mappings \(D,G: \mathcal A(X) \to \mathcal L(X)\) such that \(D(A^2)= D(A) A+ A G(A)\) and \(G(A^2)= G(A) A+ A D(A)\) are fulfilled for all \(A \in \mathcal A(X)\), then there exists \(B \in \mathcal L(X)\) and a linear mapping \(\alpha: \mathcal A(X) \to F\) such that \(D(A)= [A,B]+ \alpha (A) I\), \(G(A)= [A,B]- \alpha (A) I \) for all \(A \in \mathcal A (X)\). Moreover, \( D(A^2)=G(A^2)\) for all \(A \in \mathcal A(X)\) and the map \(\alpha \) vanishes on finite rank operators. In a similar fashion, the author considers additive maps \(T: \mathcal A(X) \to \mathcal L(X)\) such that \(T(A^2)= [T(A), A]\) for all \(A \in \mathcal A(X)\).
