Let \(F\) be a field, \({n}>{0}\) be a natural number and let \(M_{n}\left(F\right)\) be the vector space of all \({n}\times{n}\) matrices over \(F\). A linear map \(\psi: M_{n}\left(F\right)\rightarrow M_{n}\left(F\right)\) is said to preserve idempotence if \(A-\lambda B\) is idempotent iff \(\psi\left(A\right)-\lambda \psi\left(B\right)\) is idempotent, for any \(A,B \in M_{n}\left(F\right)\), and \(\lambda\in {F}\). The authors consider the subspace, \(T_{n}\left(F\right)\) of all upper-triangular matrices over \(F\) and use some of linear algebra computations and techniques to characterize idempotence preserving maps on the subspace \(T_{n}\left(F\right)\) when the characteristic of \(F\) is not \({2}\), \({n}\geq {3}\), and \(F\) has at least four elements.
