The authors consider two quasi-Banach spaces \(A_0\subset A_1\) and the corresponding real interpolation spaces \(A_{\rho,q},\) \(0<q\leq \infty\), when the function parameter \(\rho\) has the form \(\rho_{\theta,b}(t)=t^\theta (1+| \log t| )^{-b}\), \(0<\theta<1\), \(b\) a real number. The quasinorm is defined by \[ \| a\| _{A_{\rho,q}}=\left\{\int_0^\infty \left(\frac{K(t,a)}{\rho(t)} \right)^q \frac{dt}{t}\right\}^{1/q}, \] where \(K(t,a)\) is the \(K\)-functional of Peetre. On the other hand, the authors introduce the notion of abstract logarithmic spaces, generated by \((A_0, A_1)\) and \(\rho_{\theta,b}\), and denoted by \(A_{\theta,q}(\log A)_b\). These spaces are \(\Sigma^{(q)-}\) or \(\delta^{(q)-}\) extrapolation spaces, as introduced in [\textit{G.\,E.\thinspace Karadzhov} and \textit{M.\,Milman}, J.~Approximation Theory 133, 38--99 (2005; Zbl 1081.46018)]. According to Theorem~4.2 and Theorem~4.6 of [loc.\,cit.], we have the equality \((*) A_{\theta,q}(\log A)_b=A_{\rho_{\theta,q},b}\). The main result of the paper is a direct proof of \((*)\). An application is given when \(A_0,A_1\) are the Lebesgue spaces \(L_\infty(\Omega),\) \(L_r(\Omega)\), where the domain \(\Omega\) has a finite Lebesgue measure. Another application concerns spaces of linear bounded operators acting between two quasi-Banach spaces and defined in terms of approximation numbers.
