In the first part of this paper, it is shown that if \(G\) is a \(C^1\)-functional on a Banach space \(E\), \(A\) and \(B\) are subsets of \(E\) such that \(A\) links \(B\) in the sense of \textit{M. Schechter} and \textit{K. Tintarev} [Bull. Soc. Math. Belg., Sér. B 44, No. 3, 249--261 (1992; Zbl 0785.58017)], and \[ a_0 := \sup_A{G} \leq b_0:= \inf_B{G}; \] then for every \(\psi\) positive nonincreasing locally Lipschitz continuous function with divergent integral on \([0,\infty[\), there is a Cerami-type sequence; i.e., \(\{u_k\}\) in \(E\) such that \[ G(u_k)\to a \quad\text{and}\quad \frac{\| G'(u_k)\| }{\psi(\| u_k\| )} \to 0. \] In particular, there exists a Cerami sequence. In the second part of this paper, situations where the condition \(a_0 \leq b_0\) is not satisfied, but a Cerami-type sequence can be produced, are studied. Applications to elliptic semilinear problems are presented.
