The author studies the existence of solutions of the Dirichlet boundary value problem \[ \Delta^2 u(t-1)+\mu_1 u(t)+g(t,u(t))=h(t),\;t \in \{a+1, \ldots,b+1\}, \quad u(a)=u(b+2)=0. \] Here \(g\) is a continuous and unbounded function that satisfies some sign and growth restrictions and \(\mu_1\) is the first eigenvalue of the linear problem \(\Delta^2 u(t-1)+\mu\, u(t)=0,\;u(a)=u(b+2)=0. \) The existence result follows from the Leray-Schauder theory.
