\textit{R.\,W.\thinspace Leggett} and \textit{L.\,W.\thinspace Willams} [Indiana Univ.\ Math.\ J.\ 28, 673--688 (1979; Zbl 0421.47033)] presented criteria which guarantee the existence of a fixed point for single-valued continuous compact maps and do not require the operator to be invariant on the underlying sets utilizing a concave functional and the norm. The Leggett--Williams fixed point theorem was generalized to the compression-expansion fixed point theorem of norm type by \textit{D.\,J.\thinspace Guo} [Acta Math.\ Sin.\ 24, 444--450 (1981; Zbl 0495.47037)]. In the present paper, the authors prove some generalization of the fixed point theorems of expansion and compression. The main results change the role of the concave and convex functionals. Using an axiomatic index theory, the authors apply the results to multivalued maps.
