The authors describe a class of algebras with unbounded operators on which the Schwinger cocyle extends. For this, they replace a space of bounded operators commonly used in the literature by some space of tame operators, which are in most applications spaces of pseudodifferential operators. The case of classical and log-polyhomogeneous pseudodifferential operators is studied. The motivation for this is to find cocycles, defined via renormalized traces, that generalize the Khesin--Kravchenko--Radul cocyle. The authors prove that the cohomology class of these cocylces is the same as the cohomology class of the Schwinger cocycle.
