      The Cauchy problem for the equation \[ u_t- \text{div}(|\nabla u|^{p-2}\nabla u)+|\nabla u|^q= 0 \] is studied in \(\mathbb{R}^N\) when \(t> 0\). In particular, decay estimates are given for \(|\nabla u(x,t)^\alpha|\) as \(t\to\infty\) (\(\alpha\) depends only on \(p\), \(q\), and \(N\)). Also so-called dead cores are investigated.
