The paper deals with the concept of distance between general fuzzy numbers, and this distance itself is defined as a fuzzy number, as well. The concepts are applicable to LR fuzzy numbers, too. A fuzzy distance measure of this type is defined and its metric properties are investigated. Moreover, the concepts of ambiguity and fuzziness are described and analyzed. The theoretical results are illustrated by numerical example.
