The author constructs raising/lowering operators for Askey-Wilson polynomials based on two different techniques. The first technique depends on the \(q\)-difference equation and the three term recurrence which are satisfied by these polynomials, so it can be applied to all polynomials in the Askey scheme. The second one is based on Hecke algebra considerations and the calculations are a little more intricate.
