Let \(R\) be a right Noetherian ring and let \(\sigma\) be an automorphism of \(R\). One of the goals of the paper under review is to establish the relationship between the right associated (resp. minimal) primes of \(R\) and those of the extension ring \(K(R)\), where \(K(R)=R[x,\sigma]\) or \(R[x,x^{-1},\sigma]\). It is shown that \(P\) is a right associated (resp. minimal) prime ideal of \(K(R)\) if and only if there exists a right associated (resp. minimal) prime ideal \(Q\) of \(R\) such that \(K(R)(P\cap R)=P\) and \(P\cap R\) equals the intersection of the prime ideals in the orbit of \(Q\) under the action of \(\sigma\). A similar relationship is established for the case of the Ore extension \(R[x,\delta]\) where \(\delta\) denotes a derivation of the Noetherian \(\mathbb{Q}\)-algebra \(R\). Specifially, \(P\) is a right associated (resp. minimal) prime ideal of \(R[x,\delta]\) if and only if \(P=D(P\cap R)\) and \(P\cap R\) is a right associated (resp. minimal) prime ideal of \(R\). These results were inspired by two recent papers of \textit{S.~Annin} [Commun. Algebra 30, No. 5, 2511-2528 (2002; Zbl 1010.16025) and J. Algebra Appl. 3, No. 2, 193-205 (2004; Zbl 1060.16029)]. The author points out some obstacles that lie in the way of obtaining similar results for the Ore extensions \(R[x,\sigma,\delta]\), where \(\delta\) is a \(\sigma\)-derivation of \(R\).
