The authors consider the first initial-boundary value problem for multidimensional strongly nonlinear equations with double nonlinearity of pseudoparabolic type \[ {\partial\over {\partial t}}\big(\Delta u-| u| ^qu \big) +\Delta_p u+\lambda| u| ^{p-2}u=0,\quad p>2,\quad q\geq 0,\quad \lambda>0, \] \[ u(x,0)=u_0(x),\qquad u|_{\partial\Omega}=0 \] in a bounded, smooth enough domain \(\Omega.\) It is proved the local solvability of this problem in the weak generalized sense. Depending on the nonlinearity and initial conditions under consideration, the authors prove the solvability of the equation in any finite cylinder \((x,t)\in\Omega\times[0,T]\) or the blowing up of the solution in finite time.
