Let \(E\) and \(F\) be Banach spaces. A subset \(M\) of \(E\) is said to be lineable if there exists an infinite-dimensional vector space \(V\subset M\cup\{0\}\). Let \(\Pi_{p}(E;F)\) and \(I_{p}(E;F)\) represent the vector spaces of all absolutely \(p\)-summing operators and \(p\)-integral operators from \(E\) to \(F\), respectively. As usual, \(\mathcal{L}(E;F)\) denotes the space of all continuous linear operators from \(E\) to \(F\). In the paper under review, the authors investigate the lineability in the sets \(\mathcal{L}(E;F)\smallsetminus\Pi_{1}(E;F)\) and \(\Pi_{p}(E;F)\smallsetminus I_{p}(E;F)\). The paper contains new insights and nice results; for example, it is shown that (under certain assumption on \(E\)) the set \(\mathcal{L}(E;F^{\ast})\smallsetminus\Pi _{1}(E;F^{\ast})\) is lineable. Some interesting open questions are proposed, suggesting possible directions for future investigation on lineability, related to the papers of \textit{W. J. Davis} and \textit{W. B. Johnson} [Stud. Math. 51, 81--85 (1974; Zbl 0286.47015)] and \textit{T. Figiel} and \textit{W. B. Johnson} [Proc. Am. Math. Soc. 41, 197--200 (1973; Zbl 0289.46015)].
