In the paper under review, the author investigates the difference of two orthogonal projectors induced by compact groups of orthogonal operators acting on a finite dimensional vector space \(V\). More precisely, let us denote by \(P_H\) the orthogonal projector onto \(M_H=\{z\in V\mid \,\forall h\in H,\, hz=z\}\), the \(H\)-invariant elements of \(V\). An upper bound is obtained using the Haar measures of the groups (\(\mu_G\) for the group \(G\)). Let us mention Theorem 1.1: Let \(H\subset K\subset O(V)\) such that \(\mu_K(H)>0\). Let \(\varphi:V\to{\mathbb R}\) be a \(K\)-invariant measurable positively homogeneous, convex, even function. Then \[ \varphi(P_H(x)-P_K(x))\leq2\mu_K(K\setminus H)\varphi(x-y) \] for every \(x\in V\) and \(y\in M_K\). We point out that it is sufficient for \(H\) to be an open subgroup and that an interesting particular case holds when \(\varphi\) is a suitable norm. Miscellaneous corollaries and applications are given: for instance, some results due to Fan-Hoffman and Causey [see Th. B1, B2 p. 264--266 in \textit{A. W. Marshall} and \textit{I. Olkin}, Inequalities: theory of majorization and its applications. New York etc.: Academic Press (1979; Zbl 0437.26007)] are reproved.
