The identification of certain types of convex \(l\)-subgroups of lattice-ordered groups has produced the class of Archimedean \(l\)-groups and the class of cardinal sums of Archimedean ordered groups. These classes are radical classes, i.e., they are closed with respect to \(l\)-isomorphic copies, convex \(l\)-subgroups, and joins of convex \(l\)-subgroups. In this paper, a new concept is introduced which allows us to generalize this method of constructing radical classes of \(l\)-groups. A selection on \(l\)-groups is a mapping which assigns to each \(l\)-group \(G\) a subset \(S(G)\) of the lattice \(C(G)\) of all convex \(l\)-subgroups of \(G\) satisfying three conditions. Several examples of selections are given: \(S(G)\) consists of all convex \(l\)-subgroups, of all polars, and of all closed convex \(l\)-subgroups, respectively. Also the radical classes determined by these selctions are studied. In particular, it is shown that whenever \(S_1\) and \(S_2\) are selections on \(l\)-groups then the class of \(l\)-groups \(G\) such that \(S_1(G)= S_2(G)\) is a radical class.
