For \(0<p \leq 1\), a linear bounded operator \(T\) acting on a Hilbert space is called \(p\)-hyponormal if \((T^\ast T)^p \geq (T T^\ast)^p\). The author proves that, if there exists a positive integer \(k\) such that \(T^k\) is \(p\)-hyponormal, then the operator \(T\) is the restriction to an invariant subspace of a generalized scalar operator of order \(4k\). In particular, he derives from Scott Brown's technique that, if \(\sigma(T)\) has interior points and \(T^k\) is \(p\)-hyponormal, then \(T\) admits nontrivial invariant subspaces.
