\textit{G. R. Veldkamp} [Am. Math. Mon. 92, 546--558 (1985; Zbl 0578.52009)] exhibited for a triangle \(ABC\) in the Euclidean plane the existence and uniqueness of an isoperimetric point (i.e.\ a point \(P\) such that the triangles \(PAB\), \(PBC\), and \(PCA\) share a common perimeter) and a point of equal detour (i.e.\ a point \(P\) satisfying \(PA + PB-AB = PB + PC-BC = PC + PA-CA\)). However, the conditions for the existence and uniqueness of such points which were given there turn out to be incorrect. In the present paper, the authors present correct versions of these conditions. Furthermore, they exhibit the relations of these points to the centres of the Soddy circles.
