In this very well written paper, the author studies a simplified scalar version of the RANS model with unbounded viscosities arising in oceanography. He proves the existence of a weak solution to the equations describing the above-mentioned model. In addition, he derives an estimate for the turbulent kinetic energy and boundedness of the mean velocity using a Stampacchia's technique. He also establishes regularity results with the proof based on the De Gorgi-Nash theorem and discusses various notions of weak solutions and relations among them.
