Consider the functional differential equation with finite delay \[ x'(t) + A(t) x(t) = g\big(t,x(t),x_t\big)\;,\quad t\geq 0 \] with initial value \[ x_0 = \varphi, \] where, as usual, \(x_t(\cdot) = x(t+\cdot)\), and \[ A(t) = \text{diag}\big[a_1(t),\dots,a_n(t)\big] \] with \(a_i\) being a bounded continuous functional on \([0,\infty)\) for each \(i\). In this paper, sufficient conditions for the existence and uniqueness of solutions of the aforementioned initial value problem are obtained. The asymptotic stability of solutions and the existence of periodic solutions are also studied.
