The article deals with common fixed points of a family of quasi-nonexpansive mappings \(T_i: K \to K\), \(i = 1,2,\dots\), with \(F = \bigcap_{i\geq1} F(T_i) \neq \emptyset\), where \(K\) is a nonempty closed convex subset of a real reflexive Banach space \(E\) with weakly-continuous duality mapping \(J_\varphi\) (for some gauge \(\varphi\)). (\(T\) is said to be quasi-nonexpansive if \(\| Tx - y\| \leq \| x - y\| \) for \(x \in K\) and \(y \in F(T)\).) Further, it is assumed that \(F\) is a sunny nonexpansive retract of \(K\) and \(Q\) a nonexpansive retraction. The authors consider iterations of the form \[ x_{n+1} = \alpha_nf(x_n) + (1 - \alpha_n)T_nx_n, \quad n \geq 0, \] where \(f: K \to K\) is a contraction with constant \(\beta \in (0,1)\), \(\alpha_n \in (0,1)\), \(\lim_{n \to \infty} \alpha_n = 0\), \(\sum_{n=1}^\infty \alpha_n = \infty\). It is proved that the sequence \((x_n)\) converges strongly to a common fixed point \(\bar{x} = Q(f(\bar{x}))\) of a family \(T_i\), \(i = 1,2,\dots\), and, moreover, that \(\bar{x}\) is the unique solution in \(F\) to the variational inequality \[ \langle f(\bar{x}) - \bar{x},J_\varphi(y - \bar{x}) \rangle \leq 0, \quad y \in F, \] however, provided that the sequence \((x_n)\) satisfies, in addition, the following so-called condition~(A): the relations \(x_{n_k} \rightharpoonup x\) and \(x_{n+1} - T_n(x_n) \rightarrow 0\) imply that \(x \in F\). The remainder of the article deals with some corollaries of this result.
