The authors analyze some theoretical properties related to the triangulations of the sphere. The previous work by \textit{J. R. Baumgardner} and \textit{P. O. Frederikson} [SIAM J. Numer. Anal. 22, 1107--1115 (1985; Zbl 0601.65084)] is one of the main references. Some notation is needed: Let \(\varphi(\mathbf{x}):=\mathbf{x}/| \mathbf{x}| \), \(\mathbf{x}\in \mathbb{R}^3\). If \(T\) is a planar triangle, then \(\varphi(T)=\widetilde{T}\) is a spherical triangle. The area \(a(T)\), and the diameter \(h(T)\) of a planar or spherical triangle \(T\), are defined in terms of the corresponding measures. After describing the process of triangulation as a sequence \(\{\widetilde{\mathcal{T}}_m\}\), it is stated one of the main results of the paper (Theorem 1), given in terms of the following inequalities (quasi-uniformity in diameters, areas and edges). \[ \max\{\mathcal{H}(\widetilde{T})\mid \widetilde{T}\in\widetilde{\mathcal{T}}_m\}\leq C \min\{\mathcal{H}(\widetilde{T})\mid \widetilde{T}\in\widetilde{\mathcal{T}}_m\}, \] where \(\mathcal{H}\) means area or diameter, and \(C\) is a constant which only depends on \(\widetilde{\mathcal{T}}_0\). A similar inequality is also given when \(\mathcal{H}\) denotes the length of an edge. Theorem 2 assures the existence of a limit \(\varphi_{\lim}\) for the process, where \(\varphi_{\lim}:T_0\to \widetilde{T}_0\), is Lipschitz, with Lipschitz inverse. It is also proved that the sequence of deformations which can be seen in the zenithal projection is uniformly Lipschitz, with uniformly Lipschitz inverse. The theory of the article is confirmed by some numerical results which appear at the end.
