The main result of this article is a characterization of pairs of commuting polynomial automorphisms of \(\mathbb{C}^3\). The author precisely proves that if \(f\) is a regular automorphism of \(\mathbb{C}^3\) and if \(g\) is an automorphism of \(\mathbb{C}^3\) commuting with \(f\), then \(f^n = g^m\) for some \((m,n) \in \mathbb{Z}^2\). The proof consists in several steps, using the Green functions of \(f\) and \(g\) and comparing the indeterminacy sets of \(f^{\pm 1}\) and \(g^{\pm 1}\). The author also studies the Smale's problem in the context of polynomial automorphisms of \(\mathbb{C}^2\) and \(\mathbb{C}^3\). The last section is devoted to remarks and explicit examples.
