The authors consider the earth-to air heat exchangers used to cool air for buildings during hot weather, or of pre-heating during winter. An buried pipe is situated into a given depth in the soil. The main problem is to find the effect of the thermal wave coming from the surface of the ground as well as the effect of the heating of the ground near the buried pipe from the air passing through the pipe. The mathematical model is described by a transient one-dimensional linear heat conduction equation subject to the periodic boundary conditions at the upper surface of the earth. The authors claim that the agreement between numerical and the experimental data is very satisfactory.
