For every algebraic number field \(K/\mathbb Q\) the author defines a hyperbolic surface lamination and an external fundamental group \(^{\circ}\mathbb{\Gamma}_K\), which contains external (not first order definable) elements. This group is an extension of the absolute Galois group of \(K\), and it is conjectured that \(^{\circ}\Gamma_{\mathbb Q}\) contains a subgroup whose abelianization is isomorphic to the idèle class group of \(\mathbb Q\).
