A minimal structure on a set \(X\) is a family \({\mathcal M}\) of subsets of \(X\) containing \(X\) and \(\emptyset\). In this case \((X,{\mathcal M})\) is called a minimal space and the elements of \({\mathcal M}\) are called \(m\)-open. An \(m\)-continuous mapping between minimal spaces is defined in the obvious way. The authors give some elementary results on minimal spaces, e.g. they construct initial minimal structures and show their universal property. A linear minimal structure \({\mathcal M}\) on a complex vector space \(E\) is a minimal structure making addition and scalar multiplication continuous, in this case \((E,{\mathcal M})\) is called a linear minimal space. The authors also give some results on linear minimal spaces. They show that, for all \(x_0\in E\) and complex numbers \(t_0\), the mapping \(x\mapsto t_0 x+ x_0\) is \(m\)-continuous.
