Let \(C\) be a smooth projective curve. A holomorphic triple on \(C\) is a triple \(T = (E_1,E_2,f)\), where \(E_1, E_2\) are vector bundles on \(C\) and \(f: E_2 \to E_1\) is a map of sheaves. For any \(\alpha \in \mathbb {R}\) let \(\mu _\alpha (T):= (\deg (E_1) + \deg (E_2) + \alpha \mathrm{rk} (E_2))/(\mathrm{rk} (E_1) + \mathrm{rk} (E_2))\) be the \(\alpha\)-slope of \(T\). Using the \(\alpha\)-slope one can define the notion of \(\alpha\)-stability for triples \textit{S. Bradlow} and \textit{O. GarcĂa-Prada} [Math. Ann. 304, No. 2, 225--252 (1996; Zbl 0852.32016)]. Here the authors study the case in which \(C\) is an elliptic curve. They provide necessary and sufficient conditions for the non-emptiness of the moduli space of \(\alpha\)-stable triples with prescribed degrees and ranks and, in these cases, they show that the moduli space is smooth and irreducible.
