The paper is concerned with a system of stochastic differential equations, the FitzHugh-Nagumo model, widely adopted as a model for various physical processes. It is considered in presence of additive and/or multiplicative noise. It is studied by means of the augmented moments method using the Fokker-Planck equation. Firstly, the nonlinear differential equation subjected to additive and multiplicative noise containing slow and fast variables is considered. Next, equations for means, variances and covariances of local and global variables are derived. Introducing new variables, the author transforms the problem to an eight-dimensional deterministic system. The problem of stochastic bifurcation is reduced to the bifurcation problem for these linear deterministic equations. For both additive and multiplicative noise critical conditions and transition diagrams are obtained. Finally, some questions concerning synchronization in FitzHugh-Nagumo ensembles with noise are discussed.
