\textit{G. Glauberman} [J. Algebra 8, 393-414 (1968; Zbl 0155.03901)] used the B-loop results to establish similar results for Moufang loops. He also proved Feit-Thompson theorems for both finite B-loops and finite Moufang loops of odd order. This raises the question as to how far these results extend to the general case of finite Bol loops of odd order. The authors examine this question in this paper. They make use of the notion of a twisted subgroup of a group, adopting the terminology of \textit{M. Aschbacher} [J. Group Theory 1, No. 2, 113-129 (1998; Zbl 0902.20010)]. The authors start an attack on a Feit-Thompson theorem for Bol loops of odd order, and they present some conditions that a simple Bol loop of odd order must satisfy which we think be crucial in a proof, if there is indeed such a theorem. The authors also observe that certain varieties of Bol loops of odd order, such as those in which every left inner mapping is an automorphism, are necessarily solvable. Bol loops are closely related to Aschbacher's twisted subgroups, and the authors survey this, especially with regard to the so-called Aschbacher radical. Throughout the paper, the authors state several open problems in the hope of stimulating research into Bol loops of odd order.
